Who are we?
"Graduate to Melbourne" is a new company who
would like to help people, like nurses coming over to do their graduate
year, settle comfortably into Melbourne.
I have been a registered Nurse here in Melbourne for over
20 years. After training at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, I have worked
permanently and casually in nearly all of the inner city hospitals of Melbourne.
I married a Dunedin boy, who is also a Registered Nurse
and so, I was introduced to New Zealand.
I have listened to the stories of NZ
nurses who spent weeks staying in hotels or hostels whilst they looked for
houses/apartments to live in. Some of them working whilst they did this, relying on public transport,
trying to find something close or within reach
of their hospital and near some shops even though they knew nothing about the
layout of the area.
Once they had moved into their house they then spent
a lot of money each week renting furniture and whitegoods.
I thought that there must someone who could help these
people settle into Melbourne but there wasn't....
My niece, who has just started her Graduate year here in
Melbourne, and I, went looking for a suitable house for her and her 3 three
friends to live in. They wanted a nice house with four bedrooms. None
of them were going to have cars and so they needed to be near their hospitals
or near public transport that would take them to
work as quickly as possible. They needed to be relatively close to shops.
We searched, inspected, applied, phoned, texted and in
the end left many messages for the Real Estate Agents.
After EIGHT weeks we got this beautiful four bedroom
house, close to her hospital, shops (shops and more shops!), parks, the city and
public transport! The house that she got was one of the first houses that
we had looked at!!!
She had other friends who searched whilst they worked,
staying with friends or relatives. They searched on their days off, went by
public transport..... they were going to move into a two bedroom house and just
share the bedrooms with two people in each room until I told them that I would take a look around for them.
They now live in a four bedroom penthouse apartment in a very trendy part of
inner Melbourne. Three of them walk to work and the other one catches the tram!
We would like to help you to find a home without
the stress that we went through. We would like to do most of the footwork before
you get here and make the job short and sweet for you.
I hope that we can help you.
